l'amour de la famille

I am so blessed to be as close to my family as I am. I am currently living back at my parents, and while it isn't my ideal situation, knowing that I have parents who are happy to have their 23 year old daughter come home multiple times after college is quite comforting. My whole family, immediate and extended, is absolutely wonderful and the fact that we all get together at least once a year despite not living in close proximity is so nice. I lost my paternal Grandpa (we call him Poppy) a few weeks ago, knowing that it was coming gave me a lot of time to reflect on how fortunate I was to have him in my life as well as the rest of my family. So here is to Poppy and the rest of my amazing and supportive family, I love you all so much!!
Wasn't style in the late 80's/early 90's just grand!
He was the greatest Poppy anyone could have

The Gift of Sight

This is the pair I wear:

I love this company for the same reason I love TOMS (I'm sure I'll talk about Toms soon), because for each pair that you buy they give a pair to someone in need. And think about it, to be able to play a role in giving the gift of sight to someone who doesn't have the resources to obtain glasses on their own is pretty darn amazing! It doesn't hurt that they don't break the bank either, just give them the specs of your prescription and it's only $95 for frame and lens'. Something even us without vision insurance can manage! And since it is an online company (and buying glasses without trying them on can be a scary experience) they will send you 5 pairs for free to try on, you have to send them back of course but then you get to order your favorite pair to wear always. I love when companies show that they have a heart, and while profit is always a focus for them it makes my heart feel good supporting them when they show that they are also focusing on using their blessings to bless others.

Warby Parker has also partnered up with one of my favorite organizations, Invisible Children, in creating their first sunglasses.
Not sure if I could pull them off (especially since I'd have to wear my eyeglasses underneath - yeah that would be hot) but I'm sure you can, take a look here

Backwards in High Heels

Right now this is one of my favorite books, I started reading it months ago and the typical "life's too busy" got in the way of my continuing. I just picked it back up and can't for the life of me understand why I let myself put it down. Tania Kindersley and Sarah Vine are two wonderfully intellectual and hilarious British ladies and with a chapter titled "Philosophy of Life, Self-Esteem, and the Whole Damn Thing" what's not to love. Although most stores would sell it in the Self Help section, it is not a book that you buy when life is falling apart and you need someone to tell you the way, it addresses everything from money, beauty, politics and sex and is a wonderfully entertaining and supportive look at being a woman and all that life brings with it. I have to admit that I often judge a book by it's cover and in this instance the whimsical artwork on the cover and throughout the book as well as the wonderful title "Backwards in High Heels - The Impossible Art of Being Female" won my heart, and rightfully so as the content more then matches.
If you have any book recommendations, I am always in the market for a good read!!

Lighting the Way

One thing you will quickly learn about me through this blog is that I am absolutely in love with Anthropologie. I have said many times (oh, about every time I walk into one of their stores) that I could live there. But sadly I don't see that as a realistic possibility, so I will have to do the next best thing and bring Anthro to me. I just bought this pendant for half off the original price!! (I also love good deals!) And although I do not currently have a place to put it I will happily store it away until I do!! It is made from upcycled cardboard and plywood and I love the raw look, it has a bit of a natural industrial appearance.

Hello All !!

I love all things that have a story. Whether it be people, furniture, books, fashion or art, being surrounded by things with history and meaning make every little moment that much more special. I want this blog to be a sharing ground for all that I love, a place to tell the story of what means something to me. From the superficial to the profound, whatever is on my heart to share, I would like to do so with you. I hope you enjoy my loves as much as I do!
